Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has visited the Festac-Alakija Bridge to inspect the portions of the bridge damaged by suspected vandals.
The governor made an on-the-spot assessment of the structure along with the contractors, state executive council members and local government chairmen.
In a post on X, his media aide, Gboyega Akosile, yesterday, Sanwo-Olu was seen inspecting the pillars of the bridge.
The governor assured residents of the sound integrity of the bridge.
Sanwo-Olu, however, warned that the full weight of the law would be brought upon vandals and buyers of vandalised government property.
The governor also urged residents to desist from unscrupulous practices.
“Earlier today, I inspected the Alakija Bridge following an attempt by vandals to damage part of the structure.
“Let me reassure Lagosians that the bridge is safe, structurally sound and ready for use. There is no cause for alarm.
“I commend our security teams across the Police, RRS, Task Force, KAI and Neighbourhood Safety Corps for acting quickly to secure the area. Some of those involved are already in custody, and we are going after the rest,” the governor stated on his X handle yesterday.
“Let me be clear, anyone who attempts to destroy public infrastructure in Lagos will face the full force of the law.
“We are also keeping our commitment to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor. The ongoing clean-up is already making a visible difference, and the work will continue.
“We all have a role to play in keeping Lagos safe and protecting what belongs to all of us,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu had on Friday directed security agencies to go after those responsible for the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
In a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor condemned the incident, describing vandalism as “barbaric and criminal” and warning that anyone found culpable would face the law.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” Sanwo-Olu had said.
