Governorship election: Governor Adeleke urges Osun voters to reject APC

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 6, 2026 501 Minutes read0

•Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State

…says “we must never go back to those dark days of APC”

Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged voters to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Osun State governorship election on August 15.

In a statement on his official X account today morning, Adeleke warned of a return to past hardships like half salaries and food insecurity for civil servants under previous APC governments in Osun State.

Adeleke, now the Accord Party candidate after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), framed the upcoming governorship election as a choice between continued progress under his administration and prior APC policies that he claims weaponized poverty.

The governor’s post reflects intense pre-election tensions in Osun, with Adeleke mobilizing support by emphasizing worker welfare improvements and calling for defense of the people’s mandate against opposition desperation.

“We will not allow the APC to take Osun State back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food,” he wrote.

“I call on the good people of Osun State to brace up for just a few more days. Those who once weaponized poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain.

“We must never go back to those dark days. On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance.

“Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward ACCORDINGLY.”
