Gunmen abduct Catholic priest, driver

A Catholic priest , Reverend father Kingsley Eze of the St Michael”s Catholic Church parish , Umuekebi,Osuowere in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State has been abducted by gunmen.

The cleric popularly known as Father “Ichie” by his congregations according to a source from the community was whisked away alongside his driver known as Uchenna Newman at Orie Ama junction at about 8 pm yesterday.

The hoodlums were also said to have robbed some shops in the area before finally fleeing from the scene .

Also, a parishioner, who spoke on condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the church members were presently gripped with fear.

The source said, “It is true. Our parish priest, Reverend father Kingsley Eze, has been abducted . He was abducted alongside Mr Uchenna Newman, at Orieama junction on Thursday around 8 pm.

“They came down from a Volvo jeep to buy something at the junction before they were abducted . They also robbed businessmen at the junction. We sincerely pray for the safe return of our parish priest and Mr Uchenna.”

Another source from the area also disclosed that the incident was not the first in the area in recent times.

When contacted on the incident, the State police spokesperson, Henry Okoye said the command was yet to be briefed.
