Suspected thugs reportedly blocked Peter Obi’s convoy as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate attempted to enter Benue State.
The convoy was allegedly stopped by a stick-wielding mob on Gboko Road, according to videos shared today by Esther Umoh, Obi’s photographer.
The footage showed members of the mob pursuing the convoy as it attempted to make its way into the state, reports The Guardian.
Umoh said the incident occurred shortly after Obi and his team arrived in Benue and were travelling from the airport into town.
“This is Gboko Road; the entire road is blocked. We just touched down, and this is the only road from the airport into town. They said Peter Obi is not coming into the town to see the people he wanted to see.
“This is not acceptable. We should be able to do politics without going this low,” she said.
The incident comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying mobilisation and engagements across the country.
