I don’t think Tinubu believes in budgets he presents — Co-founder of BudgIT, Seun Onigbinde slams FG budgeting process

•Tinubu presenting budget and Onigbinde

Co-founder of BudgIT, Seun Onigbinde, has criticised the federal government budgeting process, saying he does not think that the President Bola Tinubu administration believes in the budgets it presents before the National Assembly.

Onigbinde, who spoke on Channels Television last night, said that the administration, which has a significant revenue problem, might not understand the fundamentals that budgets must be time-bound.

He said that the federal government has about ₦17 trillion to spend on debt servicing and another ₦7 trillion to spend on salaries, in addition to consolidated expenses, service-wide charge, pensions and statutory transfers.

Onibginde said that the minimum the federal government needs to run its overhead and recurrent expenditure is over ₦30 trillion, which he said the government does not have.

He, therefore, called for more transparency in budgeting.

In April 2026, Tinubu assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, which provides for an aggregate expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion.
