INEC announces date for FCT area council elections

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 26, 2025 1850 Minutes read0

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that elections will be conducted across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The election, according to a statement on INEC officla X.com page on Wednesday, will commence at 8:30 AM and take place at all designated polling units within the FCT, reports Nigerian Tribune.

INEC emphasised that only eligible voters will be allowed to participate. Voters must cast their ballots at the polling units where they are registered.

Only individuals whose names appear on the official Register of Voters and who possess valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be permitted to vote, the electoral body disclosed.

INEC said the election will also feature the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to ensure a transparent and credible process and reiterated that without a PVC, individuals will not be allowed to vote.

Residents of the FCT are urged to prepare for the election by ensuring their voter registration details are up to date and their PVCs are readily available for accreditation on election day.
