INEC declares Kamala Harris winner, tells Donald Trump to go to court – Nigerians joke on US election

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 9, 2024 6832 Minutes read0

•Trump and Harris

For diverse personal reasons, many Nigerians got ‘involved’ in the just concluded United States of America’s 2024 election. They were bold enough to campaign for their preferred candidates, especially Kamala Haris and Donald Trump, reports Saturday Vanguard.

While the heat was on, Netizens went to task, throwing funny jabs at Nigeria’s electoral umpire- the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. It was a time to revisit the ugly events of the February 25, 2023 general elections; though with sarcasms.

They were quick to question supporters of the ruling party who were enjoying the progress of the election in America, if they heard anything about ballot snatching, tugs disrupting the polls and asking non indigenes to go back to their states to vote, or whether they saw any law enforcement agents protecting political thugs.

When it was becoming obvious that President-elect Donald Trump, was winning, users began calling upon the INEC chairman to do something to stop Trump. Some said categorically that it was only the Chairman that could save Kamala Haris. Posts such as “Na only this INEC man fit help Kamala Harris right now”, began trending.

Users still refused to rest after the election, as they released photos of the two major candidates with their total scores now altered to favour Harris. They altered Haris’s score of 224 to 280 and Trump’s 267 to 100 and supported it with the caption, “Go to court” and “Breaking news, INEC declares Kamala winner.”

Check out more comments on X. Nefertiti @firstladyship wrote, “In Nigeria, media houses are not allowed to project any results. INEC is the only body that can announce results. The USA is governed by the people. The company called Nigeria is misruled by the owners called The Establishment. The two are different! Judges were on duty to hear election matters in real-time.

“A judge extended voting in Clearfield County PA, where there was a bomb threat. In Nigeria, the executive gives orders to the judiciary. The Nigerian Supreme Court denied the 25% Mandatory Constitutional provision. America is the Greatest Country in the world.”

Nature is beautiful @erotichal reacted, “Nigeria is indeed several years backward. In less than 24 hours, the election result was out in the US but in Nigeria, the workers of iniquity aka INEC, took 4 to 5 days and finally announced the result at midnight like a thief.”

Biodunnikani, replying to eroticgal, wrote, “Correction, several decades backward.”

Reacting, @Ramotaolaniyi who supported her post with a snapshot of an altered result sheet, said, “Americans don’t know how to conduct elections. They must come and learn from INEC. Their judges need lessons from ex-CJN Ariwola.”
