INSECURITY: Northern forum asks Tinubu to sack Service Chiefs, reshuffle cabinet

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 8, 2025 3961 Minutes read0

•Tinubu (C) and his Service Chiefs

Leaders of various ethnic groups across the 19 states in the North have asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to overhaul security, reshuffle his cabinet and embark on a phase of deep consolidation of his reforms, stressing that the worsening insecurity in the region is unacceptable.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, after their meeting, the Convener, Dr. Dominic Alancha, who was flanked by many other ethnic leaders comprising Prof David Manga, Salisu Ibrahim Namadi, Suleiman Yunusa Bawa, Zugwai Bodam, Julius Adamu, Ungbo Danjuma, Abubakar Mohammed Zurmi, and Aliyasu Bello among others also said the President must act fast.

The North is facing an avalanche of challenges including Boko Haram attacks and killing in the North East, banditry in the North West and North Central, out of school children, food crisis and many others, reports Daily Trust.

The forum expressed dismay that the current service chiefs have, despite the enormous resources allocated with the taxpayers’ money failed to conceive and execute effective strategies to end insecurity, and demanded the President to replace them with more competent hands.

“Our call today is born out of patriotism, not malice; out of a desire for success, not failure. We supported the President’s ambition and we desire to support him again in 2027, but that support is contingent on effective, empathetic, and decisive governance.

“The time for action is now. The survival and prosperity of our nation, particularly the beleaguered North, hangs in the balance. We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to heed this call and act promptly to save our nation from further drift.

“We demand immediate dismissal and replacement of all Service Chiefs. The President must appoint new, fresh, and innovative military leaders with a clear mandate and a timeline for delivering measurable results.

“We demand immediate declaration of a state of emergency on security in the entire Northern region. This is not a call for militarisation but for a targetted, multi-agency, and resource-intensive emergency operation to flush out terrorists, dismantle their networks, and restore permanent order.

“The economic squeeze, the insecurity, and the social anxiety have gone far beyond rhetoric. The people feel a profound disconnect between their daily realities and the assurances from your Abuja office.”
