•Governor Umo Eno and President Tinubu
… as Tinubu wins primary election at Ibiakpan Obotim Ward II
Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has applauded the direct primaries option adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its national Leader, President Bola Tinubu, for its enhanced social integration at the grassroots.
Fielding questions from Government House Correspondents shortly after participating in the party’s presidential primary in his ward, Ibiakpan Obotim Ward II, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, where President Tinubu emerged the winner, the governor said the option has given a sense of belonging to those at the grassroots.
Governor Eno thanked the party faithful in his ward for turning up en mass to queue behind President Tinubu for a second term, describing the gesture as a great source of inspiration for continuous rural development which is one of the pillars of the ARISE Agenda.
“One thing this direct primaries has done is to bring everybody back to their wards, which shows you that politics is local. For me, one of the lessons is that we must take care of this our local communities. We must ensure that we carry them along. We shouldn’t just come to them during election. They have come out en mass because, I believe, we have been carrying them along,” he said.
The governor noted that his administration pays particular interest in rural development, adding that he will continue to open up rural roads and communities to stimulate the local economy.
He enumerated some of his administration’s efforts at rural development to include; appointment of personal aide in each of the 329 wards, construction of model primary schools and health centres, rural roads, co-operative society for women, borehole water installation, ARISE compassionate homes, and the soon – to – be commissioned Youth Development Centers; while reaffirming his commitment to doing more next term.
The State Chief Executive congratulated President Tinubu on his victory, and reassured the people of inclusive, visionary and people-centric leadership by ensuring that the grassroots and rural areas will continue to be his administration’s top priority.
