It’s harder than ever to be a manufacturer in Nigeria – MAN

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 21, 2024 2761 Minutes read0

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has raised concerns about the increasing difficulties in the country.

Speaking on Channels TV today monitored by The Frontier, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, Director-General of the association, described the situation as “particularly difficult” and one where many are questioning if it is even worth staying in business.

He also highlighted the additional burden manufacturers face in securing basic necessities like power, water, and even locally sourced raw materials.

He said, “It is difficult, I think that is the best way to put it, the manufacturing sector is not isolated from the challenges that confront the economy.

“But for a manufacturer it is particularly difficult, you have to worry about how you are going to complete with similar products that are imported into the country that operated in environment that is more conducive for manufacturing.

“You also have to meet your obligations to your employees, pay your taxes and generally plan for growth.

“So in a situation where you practically take care of all the infrastructure that you need to operate as a manufacturer, power, water, sourcing your raw materials that is those ones that are available locally and ensuring those who do wholesale and retail your products are also able to move it in the market.

“So as a manufacturer it is a particularly difficult time, it is being difficult over the years but now I think the situation drier, and for a manufacturers most of them are considering weather is worthwhile to engage in this business.”
