It was a Nigerian show yesterday as Alex Iwobi netted deep into added time to hand Fulham a famous 1-2 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
His compatriot Calvin Bassey had given Fulham the lead in the 65th minute before Harry Maguire’s near-post effort levelled the scores one minute before the 90-minute mark, reports AFP.
But Iwobi, fresh off the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) silenced the home crowd seven minutes into added time.
The completion of Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake in United this week and a spell of good form had brought hope of a fresh start for the Red Devils.
United had won their previous four Premier League games to rekindle hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, but a 2-1 defeat leaves them eight points adrift of Villa.
