JUST IN: Abure group gives Peter Obi 48 hours to resign from Labour Party over coalition

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 3, 2025 2921 Minutes read0

•Peter Obi and Julius Abure

The Julius Abure group within the Labour Party (LP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Peter Obi to resign his membership of the party over his bromance with the David Mark-led opposition coalition.

In a statement today, a spokesman for the group, Obiora Ifoh, said all members of the coalition once mismanaged Nigeria at one point or the other.

Ifoh said desperate politicians can’t birth a new Nigeria, stressing that the Labour Party won’t tolerate Obi’s alliance with the coalition powered on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while the former presidential candidate still identified with the Labour Party, reports Channels TV.

“We are aware of several nocturnal meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members, lobbying them to join him in his new party. We’re also aware that a number of them have refused to defect with him.

“Labour Party has consistently said it is not part of the coalition and therefore, any of our members who is part of the coalition is given within 48 hours to formally resign his membership of the party.

“Labour Party is not available for people with dual agenda, people with deceptive persona. The party will not avail itself to individuals who have one leg in one Party and another leg elsewhere,” the statement read.

The Labour Party group labelled members of the opposition coalition as opportunistic politicians “interested in relaunching themselves into the circle of power, people who are desperate to continue holding on to power”.
