The paramount traditional ruler of the Ohafia Ancient Kingdom and the Udumeze of Ohafia, Professor Emmanuel Ume Lekwa Imaga, is dead.

This was even as the royal family, Umu-Elekwa, Elu Ohafia, has traditionally appointed Prince Engineer Uma Agbai Olugu as the regent, reports Nigerian Tribune.

According to the Council of Ohafia Monarchs (Onoko Ndi Ezieogo Ohafia), the kingmakers, we were “traditionally notified about the passage of the Udumeze Ohafia, Ebiri of Elu, the chairman and clan head of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, a distinguished scholar and academic, and an Ohafia man of distinction, Ezie Ohamoha Prof. Emmanuel Ume Lekwa Imaga”.

In a statement jointly issued at the end of an emergency meeting of the council on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Udumeze’s Palace, Elu Ohafia in Ohafia LGA, and signed on behalf of the council of Ohafia Monarchs by HRM Mba Odo Okereke, the General Secretary and Chief Imo Ukwa Imo, the Director of Press & Protocol, the Council of Ohafia Monarchs declared eight (8) market days of mourning starting from Monday, January 22, 2024, through Friday, February 23, 2024,

“Accordingly, by this declaration, all our symbols and totems are to fly at half mast during this period of mourning,” the traditional council announced”.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has condoled with the people of Ohafia Udumaeze on the passing of the revered traditional ruler, His Royal Paramountcy, Prof. E.U.L. Imaga, the Udumaeze of Ohafia and Chairman of the Ohafia Council of Nde Ezie Ogo.

Sen. Kalu described the death of the traditional ruler as a painful loss, stating that the late Ezie Ogo was a peace-loving leader, adding, “The Udumaeze was in a class of his own. He was highly respected and admired for his deep insights, wisdom, and sophistication. He had a masterful way of handling issues. He was very knowledgeable and wise.”.

He called on the people of Ohafia to take solace in the legacy of peace and fellowship left behind by the late traditional ruler.
