BREAKING: #EndBadGovernance protesters storm court, demand Sowore release •PHOTOS

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 29, 2025 4030 Minutes read0

Following the detention of activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, some #EndBadGovernance protesters stormed the Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing security forces of intimidation and demanding his immediate release.

Recall that Sowore was summoned on multiple allegations, including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobeying lawful orders, cyberstalking, and allegedly attempting to prevent arrests, reports Vanguard.

Sowore claimed in a statement on X.com on Monday that his summons was politically motivated due to his criticism of Egbetokun’s tenure extension, but later revealed he was granted bail following an engagement with the Force Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.

According to a newspaper report, with a strong police presence today, a protester expressed dissatisfaction, accusing the authorities of focusing on the wrong priorities.

“Police officers are here to intimidate protesters. Meanwhile, Abuja is burning. Look at them gathered here instead of being deployed to crime hotspots. This shows the seriousness of this government and the illegal Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. If he were serious, he would send his men to tackle crime, not to harass peaceful demonstrators,” the protester said.
