No fewer than four residents of Nasarawa State have lost their lives in a boat accident that occurred in the Awe Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the boat which was conveying Rice Farmers from Ubbe District in the Nasarawa Eggon LGA, had a tragic accident while crossing a river at Hunki village of Awe LGA last night, reports The PUNCH.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been transported back to the village for proper identification by their families.
They were identified as Alkali Congo, Shedrack Dauda, Mashack Dauda, and Akolo Moses.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent in Lafia today, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the driver of the boat was still missing.
He said, “Confirmed. It happened yesterday; the farmers were returning from the farm, and the boat capsized.
“But with the support of local divers, four corpses were recovered, and one person was rescued.
“The person driving the boat is yet to be found and efforts are ongoing to find him.
“The Acting Commissioner of Police sympathised with the families of the deceased and prayed to God to console them specially.”
Recall that 12 residents recently lost their lives to a boat accident at the Kogi Kungra Kamfani River in Arikiya community of Lafia LGA.
