JUST IN: Cole Palmer wins EPL player of the month

Cole Palmer has been voted the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for September 2024.

The announcement, made today via the official EPL website, confirms that Palmer led the Premier League in both goals and goal involvement during September, scoring five times and providing one assist in just four appearances.

Palmer’s most remarkable feat came during Chelsea’s 6-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, where he set a new Premier League record by becoming the first player to score four goals in the first half of a match.

His incredible four-goal haul occurred within 21 minutes, showcasing his exceptional finishing ability and composure under pressure.

This devastating performance alone secured his place in the league’s history books.

In addition to his goal-scoring heroics against Brighton, Palmer also provided an assist in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace and found the back of the net once again during Chelsea’s 3-0 win over West Ham United. These contributions further solidified his case for the award.

This is Palmer’s second Player of the Month award, with his first coming in April 2024.

His consistency is evident, as he has now won two of the last three available awards.

The 22-year-old topped an eight-man shortlist after a public vote on the EA SPORTS website was combined with the votes of a panel of football experts.

Palmer has already started October strongly, providing an assist in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

He currently leads the Premier League with 11 goal involvements this season and will be looking to add to his tally when Chelsea return to action against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, 20 October.

As the official EPL website reports, Barclays Manager of the Month for September will also be revealed soon, continuing the round of prestigious recognitions for Premier League stars.

It was earlier reported that Palmer was on Tuesday named the England Men’s Player of the Year for 2024.

Meanwhile, Chelsea FC took to X to commend the English International’s feat.

In a post today, the club wrote, “It had to be him. Cole Palmer is the @PremierLeague Player of the Month for September.”

In another, it wrote, “Best get updating this graphic soon…

“PL August Goal of the Month; PL hat-trick against Brighton & Hove Albion; England Men’s Player of the Year; and PL September Player of the Month.”
