JUST IN: Nigeria’s Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala completes Al Hilal move on 2-year deal

Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, has completed a move from National Women’s Soccer League side, Bay FC, to Saudi Women’s League side, Al Hilal, on a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old, who had joined the NWSL outfit in February 2024 after a trophy-laden spell at Spanish giants FC Barcelona Femeni, underwent her medicals last night and has now joined her new team, in what is a new chapter in her Illustrious career, reports The PUNCH.

The striker missed Bay FC’s 2-1 defeat to Angel City last night night, with a report from The Athletic revealing that, “Bay FC and Al Hilal have reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee, and Oshoala is now in Saudi Arabia ahead of a medical scheduled for tonight (Monday).”

During her stay in the United States, Oshoala made 25 top-flight appearances, of which 23 were starts last season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. In all, she managed 38 games and found the back of the net eight times.

Her involvement in Bay FC’s set-up had waned since last season, with head coach Albertin Montoya citing her adaptation to the NWSL’s playing style and defensive expectations for her limited minutes this season.

He said, “In this league you have to, and that’s something that we’re working with her.

“So when she gets that and has the confidence in front of the goal to score goals and helps us defensively, and that’s why with Caroline Conti, she gives us something else defensively.”

Her move to the Gulf state provides her with an opportunity to revive her career. The six-time Women’s Africa Player of the Year has turned up for top clubs in Europe, Asia and the USA.

She was also part of the Super Falcons’ squad that won a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco in July.
