Team Nigeria ended the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as one of the competition’s top-performing nations, finishing seventh on the final medals table with an impressive haul of 24 medals.
Nigeria claimed 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, emerging as the highest-ranked African nation at the Games.
It also secured a place among the top 10 countries overall, reports Channels TV.
The final standings were confirmed on the official X handle of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games at the close of competition yesterday evening.

Other Nigerian athletes who made the country proud are Ezekiel Nathaniel, who won a gold medal in the men’s 400-metre hurdles; Goodness Nwachukwu, smashing her own world record in the women’s F42 discus throw to win gold; Idris Riluwan, who won the gold medal in the men’s para-powerlifting event; and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who made history in the men’s shot put.
Star athlete Tobi Amusan battled injury to secure a bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Australia Tops
Australia topped the medals table with 171 medals, comprising 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze.
England finished second with 110 medals — 29 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze— while Canada placed third with *62 medals (19 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze).
India and hosts Scotland completed the top five with 39 medals each.
The hosts were only edged slightly by India’s higher silver medal count.
New Zealand finished sixth with 36 medals (10 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze), just ahead of Nigeria.
Nigeria’s seventh-place finish showed a strong Commonwealth Games campaign, with the country’s 10 gold medals proving enough to keep it ahead of every other African nation.
Jamaica placed eighth with 19 medals, Wales ninth with 31 medals, while Malaysia rounded out the top 10 with 16 medals.
South Africa finished 11th with 28 medals (seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze), while Kenya ended 13th with 12 medals.
Further down the standings, Northern Ireland finished 12th with 16 medals (three gold, four silver and nine bronze), while Kenya placed 13th with 12 medals comprising three gold, four silver and five bronze.
Cyprus also ended with 12 medals but ranked 14th after winning one gold, five silver and six bronze medals.
Mauritius finished 15th with four medals, while Cameroon claimed five medals to place 16th.
Jersey, Samoa and Sri Lanka shared 17th position after each secured one gold and one silver medal, while Fiji rounded out the top 20 with one gold and one bronze medal.
Among the remaining African nations, Uganda finished 27th with three medals, Namibia placed 29th with three medals, and Ghana ended 30th with two medals.
Lesotho and Zambia each concluded their campaigns with two bronze medals, while Gabon picked up a solitary bronze medal to finish among the nations on the final medals table.
