JUST IN: Terrorists kidnap Army General, wife

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 31, 2026 3640 Minutes read0

•Kidnapped Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd)

Suspected armed bandits have abducted retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, along with his wife in Katsina State.

Reports say the incident happened along the Katsina–Matazu road when the retired senior military officer was travelling with his wife yesterday.

Their vehicle was reportedly stopped by armed men in Matazu Local Government Area, after which they were taken away to an unknown location.

Sources said the driver conveying them escaped the incident with a bullet injury, reports Sunday Vanguard.

Major General Abubakar (rtd), during his time as military spokesperson, played a key role in Defence communication in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The kidnapping has added to growing worries about insecurity in the North-West region, especially Katsina, where cases of abductions and armed attacks have continued to rise and affect both residents and travellers.

The latest attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, despite continuous military efforts against armed criminal groups.

Efforts to get the military authorities to comment on the sad development proved abortive as, at the time of sending this report.
