•Governor Yusuf (2nd right) and the emirs

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of the second class emirs of Gaya, Karaye and Rano Emirates.

Director General, Media and Publicity to the governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano.

The newly appointed emirs are: Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye as Emir of Karaye, who until his appointment was District Head of Rogo, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar as the emir of Rano.

Until his appointment, Umar was the district head of Bunkure.

The deposed emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, was reinstated as emir of Gaya.

Unlike other deposed emirs, Abdulkadir accepted his fate and expressed willingness to work in any capacity after his deposition was announced.

The governor congratulated the newly appointed emirs and enjoined them to be the custodians of culture ,peace and unity of the people in their respective Emirates.

The statement said all the appointments were with immediate effect.

It was earlier reported how the Kano Assembly passed the Kano State Emirate Council establishment bill, yesterday.

The governor had assented to the bill, leading to the creation of three second class emirates.

Speaking after signing the bill into the law at the Kano State government house, the governor said establishment of the Emirates is a testament that the government recognizes the traditional institution.
