Kano Islamic police Hisbah destroys 1600 bottles of beer

•Hisbah police destroying beers

The Kano State Hisbah Board has confiscated no fewer than 1,600 bottles of assorted beer in the Panshekara area of Kano metropolis.

The Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed this via a telephone interview with our correspondent today, reports The PUNCH.

Aminudeen, who declined to state the number of arrests, said the Hisba personnel were able to achieve the feat with the support and cooperation of the community following a tip-off.

“Yesterday, with the support and cooperation of the Panshekara community, our personnel were able to intercept and confiscate 1,600 bottles of beer.

“The beer was in bottles, cans and other containers made of plastic. We call on members of the public to continue to support the board in the fight against the consumption and sale of all intoxicants.

“The law which establishes the Kano State Hisbah board is clear because it prohibits the sale and consumption of beer and other intoxicants in the state,” he said.

According to him, the board would intensify campaigns and advocacy visits to enlighten the public about the dangers associated with the consumption of beer and engaging in other immoral acts.

He added that the board would follow due process to secure a court order for the destruction of the intoxicants, stressing that Hisba personnel will not relent in their efforts to ensure that beer consumption becomes a thing of the past in the state.

Recall that in August, Yobe State Hisbah Commission destroyed a large quantity of confiscated alcoholic drinks and arraigned suspected prostitutes and alcohol offenders in court following a major raid in the state.
