Letter on PDP Ekiti primaries fake, signature forged – INEC

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 22, 2025 1330 Minutes read0

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a letter circulating on the social media claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) had resolved to postpone the Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary.

In a statement issued yesterday, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, noted that the document did not originate from the Office of the Secretary to the Commission or any official INEC channel.

She added that preliminary checks indicated that the secretary’s signature had been “forged by unscrupulous elements.”

“The general public, political parties and the media are strongly advised to disregard the content of the said correspondence in its entirety as it is fake,” the statement noted.

INEC described the act as a serious attempt to undermine the electoral process.

“The Commission views this act of forgery and the circulation of false documents as a serious electoral offence and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public,” Eta-Messi stated.

The Commission urged individuals behind such activities to desist, warning that spreading forged or misleading documents threatens electoral integrity and public trust. It added that those involved in such “futile, criminal and disruptive activities” would be held accountable.
