Monarch warns APC chieftain against religious division in his domain

•Oba Sejiro James (R) welcomes Princess Oluremi Ajose to his palace yesterday

The Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Sejiro Olalekan James, has issued a stern warning to self-acclaimed APC leader, Hontonyon Bamgbose, cautioning him not to instigate religious tensions in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The monarch made the statement yesterday during a visit to his palace by Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, who officially declared her intention to contest the chairmanship of Badagry West LCDA under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Daily Independent.

Oba Sejiro, speaking candidly, warned against any attempt to use religion as a divisive tool, stressing the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence in the region. “We must not allow anyone, no matter their position or ambition, to ignite a religious fire in Badagry West,” he said, in a clear rebuke directed at Bamgbose.

In a show of strong traditional backing, Oba Sejiro publicly declared the support of all royal fathers in Badagry West LCDA for Princess Oluremi’s candidacy.

He said their decision was rooted in fairness and justice, noting that while other wards have produced chairmen in the past, Ward C — represented by Princess Oluremi — has yet to do so.

“Even my own sister showed interest in contesting, but I told her clearly that equity must prevail,” the monarch added. “This is not about family or sentiment, but about competence and fairness.”

Oba Sejiro declared Princess Oluremi the consensus APC candidate and instructed the chief priest of Kweme Kingdom to perform traditional rites in her honor — a cultural act of spiritual endorsement.

Princess Oluremi, daughter of HRM Oba Oyekan Adekanmi Ilufemiloye Ajose Posii III, the Alapa of Apa Egun Awori Kingdom, was accompanied by party stakeholders, including Chief Ade Agoro, Mr. Peter Atindekun, Hon. Cosmos Adeniran, and Hon. Shedrack Awhansu.

Following the Kweme palace visit, the campaign train proceeded to the palace of the Oba of Apa, where her father, Oba Ajose Posii III, emotionally revealed that he had initially been against her political ambition.

However, he said the collective voice of the community’s royal fathers had turned that opposition into acceptance.

Princess Oluremi described the moment as “a new dawn” and pledged to serve with integrity and a commitment to the people if elected.

With both traditional and political backing, her candidacy represents a unifying force in the lead-up to the local government elections.
