“Na your mama be this” video: Delta govt bows to pressure, orders nursing school to withdraw student’s query •VIDEO

•Mrs Remi Tinubu

The Delta State government, purportedly under pressure from press reports, has ordered the Provost of Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Mrs Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, to withdraw the written query earlier issued to one of the students, Edobor Osatohemwen, over the viral video recorded during the visit by the First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu on Tuesday.

The Frontier reports that Tinubu’s wife had attended the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, where 10,000 professional kits, including Crocs and scrubs, were distributed to midwives from the South-South geopolitical zone.

However, according to a viral video on social media, participants at the programme were heard chorusing a song supposedly in honour of Tinubu’s wife with ‘na your mama be this’, ostensibly disclaiming the visiting wife of the president to be their mother.

Reacting, the school authority issued a press release in a statement signed by the Provost of the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Mrs Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne yesterday, Thursday, March 27, 2025, stating that Edobor was allegedly involved in a “malicious act of recording/singing and posting an unofficial response to a song during the arrival of the First Lady” on her TikTok page.

The statement read:

“It has come to the notice of the school authority that you, Student Nurse Osato Edobor on the 25th of March, 2025 during official visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON at Dome Event Center, Asaba for the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and distribution of 10,000 Professional Kits (Crocs and Scrubs) to Midwives in each Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria South South Zone, was found to be engaged in malicious act of recording/singing and posting unofficial response to song during the arrival of the First Lady (found on your Tittok Page).

“This is a punishable offence as enshrined in the Student Handbook under standardised disciplinary action for some punishable offences No. 8, Page 21.

“You are therefore requested to explain in writing in triplicate copies within 24 hours of receipt of this letter why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for this act.”

But in a swift U-turn, the Commissioner for Health in Delta State, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, in a video obtained by The Frontier, ordered the school Provost to immediately withdraw the query, saying the state government is not ready to sanction any of the students over the issue.

Subsequently, the Provost today issued a withdrawal notice to the student and apologised for “any inconveniences this must have caused the state”.

The withdrawal letter sighted by The Frontier dated today, Friday, March 27, 2025 and addressed to the said student reads in part:

“WITHDRAWAL OF QUERY LETTER: The Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme in his magnanimity has directed the school authority to withdraw the query issued to you on the 27th March, 2025. You are therefore to return the query letter through the students affairs officer to the office if the provost. The school authority regrets any inconveniences this must have caused the state. Signed: Evbodaghe R. (Mrs).”
