The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has set up a 17-member committee screening committee for its presidential, governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants.
The Committee, which is to be inaugurated today, Tuesday, May 19, 2024 is headed by former two-term Governor of Ebonyi State, Sen. Sam Egwu, reports Daily Independent.
A statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said Egwu, a former Senator, is to serve as Chairman, while Barr. Reuben Egwuaba, the NDC National Legal Adviser, will serve as Secretary of the committee.
Also included in the committee, which is a mix of both party leaders, tested professionals and some members of the NDC National Working Committee (NWC) are: Comrade Babatunde Ali – Deputy Chairman; Alhaji Buba Galadima – Member; Hon. Mohammed Sani Takori – Member; Mr. Daniel Onifade – Member and Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo – Member.
Other members are; Mr. Wole Adedayo, Member; Dr. Osusu Osusu, Member; Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji, Member; Prof. Udenta Udenta, Member; Barr. Frederick E. Owotorufa, Member; Hannatu Tanko, member; Mr. Dogo Shammar, Member; Sir Henry Obaze, Member; Mr. Clement Agiagie, Member and Barr. Fatima Musa Abba, Member.
Recall that the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and his ally, former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), joined the party on 3rd May 2026, and since then the party has gained traction as membership of the party has been reported to have surged with the entry of the two prominent politicians.
It is believed that the former Anambra State governor will most likely emerge the presidential candidate of the party, especially now that the party’s ticket has been zoned to the south.
