NiMET warns asthmatic patients, airlines over dusty weather

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted sunny and hazy weather for the North and North Central states of the country beginning from today Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

NiMet also warned about cloudy and hazy weather, with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over the coastal cities of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states during the afternoon and evening periods.

The agency made the predictions in its Weather Report released in Abuja yesterday.

“Airline operators are urged to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.

“Individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues are advised to be cautious of the weather conditions”, the report said.

It added, “Slight dust haze is expected over the Inland areas of the South during the forecast period while, few clouds in the hazy atmosphere is expected over the coastal cities with slim prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states during the afternoon/evening period”.

Below is a detailed three-day climate forecast by NiMet:

“Day 1 (Wednesday): NiMet anticipates a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions throughout the forecast period. There’s a slight dust haze expected over the inland areas of the South, with a few clouds in a hazy atmosphere predicted over the coastal cities. Slim prospects of isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during the afternoon and evening period.

“Day 2 (Thursday): NiMet predicts a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions throughout the forecast period. Few patches of clouds are expected in a hazy atmosphere over the inland areas of the South and coastal cities, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states in the afternoon and evening period.

“Day 3 (Friday): NiMet anticipates a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions throughout the forecast period. Few patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are expected over the inland areas of the South and the coastal belt, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Edo, Bayelsa, and Delta states in the afternoon and evening period.”

Nimet advises that the suspension of dust particles in the air calls for necessary precautions by the public.
