Nollywood actress Ini Dima-Okojie welcomes first child, celebrates motherhood on 36th birthday

Nollywood actress Ini Dima-Okojie has announced the birth of her first child with her husband, Abasi Ene-Obong.

The actress shared the joyful news via Instagram yesterday, which also marked her 36th birthday, revealing that the couple recently welcomed a baby boy.

Accompanying the announcement were photographs taken shortly after the birth, showing the actress cradling her newborn son in a hospital bed as she introduced him to the public for the first time.

Reflecting on her journey into motherhood, the Blood Sisters star described the experience as the most transformative role she has ever embraced.

“There is no role I have ever played that has humbled me, stretched me, challenged me, or filled my heart quite like this one

“These past weeks have been some of the most beautiful, overwhelming, exhausting, and rewarding of my life,” she wrote.

The 36-year-old described getting to know her son as “the greatest gift”, adding that caring for him has revealed strengths she never knew she possessed while deepening her appreciation for mothers everywhere.

“Getting to know this tiny human, the cutest boy with the sweetest dimples, has been the greatest gift. Watching him grow, learning from him, loving him, and caring for him has shown me strengths I didn’t know I had. It has also given me an even deeper appreciation for mothers everywhere,” she said.

Ini tied the knot with her husband, Dr Abasi Ene-Obong, founder and former Chief Executive Officer of genomics company 54gene, in 2022.

The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans and fellow celebrities, including Nancy Isime, Chioma Ikokwu, Kehinde Bankole, and Osas Ighodaro.

Struggle With Fibroids

Over the years, she has been candid about her battle with fibroids, often sharing her experiences publicly to raise awareness about the condition.

In 2020, Ini disclosed that she was diagnosed with fibroids in 2017 and initially postponed surgery while exploring alternative approaches, including dietary modifications and regular exercise.

She eventually underwent a successful surgery in November 2020.

However, in July 2024, she revealed that the fibroids had returned years after the procedure. Three months later, she shared a positive update, announcing that a follow-up ultrasound showed the fibroids were shrinking due to lifestyle changes she had adopted.

Having previously described her pregnancy as a “miracle” and a deeply humbling experience, the arrival of her baby boy marks a joyous new chapter for Ini and her family.
