•The ADC defectors
Barely four days to the Osun State governorship election, 11 executives of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ila Local Government Area have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were received into the APC at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office in Osogbo, reports The Nation.
The defection was facilitated by the House of Representatives aspirant, Adeniyi Ismail Oluwatosin (AIO), who described the development as a demonstration of confidence in principled leadership.
“This movement is more than a political defection; it is a powerful statement of confidence in principled leadership and a renewed commitment to building a stronger, more united, and more prosperous future for the people of Ila, Ifedayo, Boluwaduro, Osun State, and Nigeria at large,” Oluwatosin said.
Those who defected include ADC Treasurer Bamidele Babatunde Segun; Chairman Owolabi Isiaka; State Executive Committee member Taiwo Jimoh Mojibola; Youth Leader Ogundare Segun; Women Leader Azeez Omolara; Ward Chairman Ogunbambi Rasheed; Organising Secretary Usman Nurudeen; Ward 7 Chairman Olayera Saheed; Ward 3 Chairman Raji Muftau; Ward Women Leader Adebayo Khadijat; and Local Government Executive Committee member Ibraheem Tunde.
Oluwatosin said the defectors’ decision was not motivated by convenience but by a shared belief that genuine leadership should be defined by integrity, consistency, accessibility, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
The defectors later met with the Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Oluwole Oke, who welcomed them to the party and reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to unity, inclusion and collective progress.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Isiaka said their political journey had been marked by lessons, discoveries and periods of reflection.
He said the group, after navigating different political paths, found in Oluwatosin a leader whose reputation was built on credibility, humility, selfless service and commitment to the welfare and advancement of the people.
The defectors pledged to mobilise support for the APC across wards in Ila, Ifedayo and Boluwaduro and work towards securing victory for the party’s AMBO ticket in the August 15 governorship election.
