Osun governorship election: I can be stubborn, impatient, says former Governor Aregbesola

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 22, 2026 691 Minutes read0

•Rauf Aregbesola

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described himself as a bit stubborn and admitted that he lacks immense patience, saying that the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Najeem, possesses the qualities needed to provide effective leadership for the state.

Aregbesola, a former Minister of Interior and Governor of Osun State, while addressing indigenes of Ile-Ife at the palace of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, shortly before the campaign rally, noted that Salam has the leadership acumen to govern the state if elected, reports The Nation.

He recounted that he always started his political campaigns from Ile-Ife, both before and during his tenure as governor of Osun State, but that his successor did not manage it well.

The ex-governor disclosed that the purpose of visiting the palace of Ooni was to present the Osun guber candidate of his new party, ADC, for their support.

According to him, “Our guber candidate is perfectly created; I am a bit stubborn… my patience is also limited; I have it, but it is not immense. But who we are presenting is full of patience. He was given a title in Ejigbo called ‘Iwaloye’, which means character is prime. That is the best way to describe him.

“I am confident that, despite all my shortcomings, God blessed me in those areas. If you slap him on his face, he will gently massage the spot and not retaliate, unlike me,” he stated.

Aregbesola said he is glad to back his candidacy for the August 15 Osun State gubernatorial seat.

He expressed confidence that he would start his landmark governance from where he stopped in Osun State and surpass his record as the governor of the state.

“I am sure that he will adopt a governance style that will start from where my administration stopped, and he will surpass the feats I achieved in the state.”
