Passports ready 3 weeks after capturing – Immigration boss

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 2, 2023 4801 Minutes read0

•Nigerian passports

The Nigeria Immigration Service has assured Nigerians will receive their passports three weeks from the day of application submission except in cases of unanticipated technical difficulties.

Speaking to reporters at the opening of the Igbogbo Passport Front Office in the Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, the Comptroller General, Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, said: “I can tell you, barring all technical problems, you should be able to completely apply for your passport and within three weeks, you should be able to get it.”

According to her, since national identity numbers are connected to passports, it is crucial that all applicants register using the same information as the National Identity Management Commission(NIMC).

“People who are applying for our passport must have similar details with which they are applying for the passport on their national identity numbers because the Nigerian passport has the national identity number on it.

“So, if there are no issues, within three weeks, you must get your passport, from application to the production of the passport,” Adepoju added.

She advised Nigerians whose passports were nearing expiration to apply for renewal six months before the expiration.

She appealed to Nigerians to always apply early for passport renewal, pointing out that certain nations refused visas to applicants whose passports had less than six months left on them.
