PDP condemns Lagos LG election, urges INEC to probe state electoral commission

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 15, 2025 1102 Minutes read0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to launch an investigation into the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) over allegations of electoral fraud and manipulation during the July 12, 2025, local government council elections.

The party also urged the Judiciary, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), International Observers, and democracy watchdogs to speak out against the “tyranny” and “electoral malpractices” witnessed during the elections, reports The Guardian.

Speaking today, the Chairman of the PDP chairmen forum in the state, Adegboyega Adegbesan, said the election was a sham, with All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs invading polling units, snatching ballot boxes, and assaulting voters, while LASIEC officials turned a blind eye or actively aided the attackers.

Adegbesan alleged widespread ballot box stuffing, pre-thumbprinted ballot papers, and doctored result sheets, which they claim were intended to subvert the will of the people.

He vowed not to recognise the “fraudulent” election or its so-called “winners” and pledged to challenge the outcome through available legal means, citing detailed evidence, eyewitness testimonies, video recordings, and official anomalies.

He said, “What transpired on Saturday, 12th July, 2025, was not an election. It was an orchestrated charade, a criminal conspiracy, and a coordinated attack on the sovereign will of the people, executed by the APC-led Lagos State Government in connivance with compromised officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

“In some local governments, our party agents were harassed, chased away, and denied access to collation centres, while results sheets were doctored and pre-filled in favour of APC candidates, even before voting was concluded. The manipulation of figures was so crude and desperate that in some wards, total votes exceeded the number of registered voters.

“In all PDP strongholds in the state, election materials were deliberately delayed, while some never arrived, and where they did, it was with incomplete documentation—designed to frustrate our supporters and suppress voter turnout.

“LASIEC, the supposed umpire, has lost all moral standing and constitutional credibility to call itself an impartial umpire. By serving as an appendage to the APC’s rigging operation, LASIEC betrayed the sacred trust reposed in it by the people of Lagos State. Its officials were not just complicit—they were active participants in the systematic sabotage of the electoral process.

“Nigerian people, especially the youth, need to understand that their silence today will only embolden these enemies of democracy tomorrow.”

Also speaking, PDP councilorship candidate, Ward F, Iwaya, Yaba LCDA, Alade Yusuf, alleged that there was no collation of results at his Ward.

“What we witnessed was a coordinated effort to disrupt, manipulate and silence the people’s voice.

“We demand a total cancellation of the Ward F council lordship election and a fresh election conducted under full security and monitored by civil society.

“This is bigger than a single candidate or party. This is about the future of our community, our democracy, and our right to choose who leads us.”
