PDP picks Oladipupo Adebutu as its Ogun governorship candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has officially elected Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu as its governorship candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Adebutu emerged as the party’s consensus candidate following a voice affirmation by party delegates and members drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state during a gathering held yesterday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, reports Daily Independent.

The former member of the House of Representatives, who has previously contested the governorship seat three times under the PDP platform, secured the party’s ticket through what party officials described as a broad-based endorsement across the state’s 236 wards.

Chairman of the party’s governorship primaries committee, Mr. Afolabi Ariyo, formally declared Adebutu as the PDP flagbearer, stating that the process reflected the collective will of party members.

In his acceptance speech, Adebutu expressed appreciation to party faithful for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the party into the 2027 election.

He pledged to work towards ending the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s hold on Ogun State, arguing that the state requires purposeful leadership capable of unlocking its economic and human potential.

“The All Progressives Congress has governed Ogun State for over a decade and a half under different political arrangements, while many residents continue to face hardship despite the state’s abundant resources and strategic position,” Adebutu said.

He stressed the need for unity within the PDP, describing the 2027 election as critical to the party’s ambition of returning to power in the state.

“Our collective responsibility should be focused on returning our party to government in order to rescue our people from suffering and maladministration,” he added.

Adebutu further assured party supporters that the PDP would unveil its governance agenda and policy direction ahead of the general election.

Also speaking at the event, Ogun PDP Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, reaffirmed the party’s readiness to reclaim power in the state and urged members to remain united in pursuit of electoral victory.
