The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Abuja, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of 4000 personnel across the FCT to enforce law and order and ensure peaceful celebration of the Eid el-kabir festival by Muslim faithfuls.

The deployment is sequel to the need to ensure security of lives and property of residents as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) in the FCT and its environs, the Command said in a statement.

It said officers deployed are from specialised departments and units of the Corps like Arms squad, Female Strike Force, crack squad and Agro Rangers.

“In order to forestall surprises from criminals and bandit who may want to plant IEDs to disrupt the celebration, Odumosu has already deployed undercover men of Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive (CBRNE) massively to ensure they sweep the territory for IEDs during the celebration”, the statement signed by the Commands public relations officer, Monica Ojobo said.

“There is also adequate deployment to volatile areas and soft targets such as Mosques, Eid Prayer grounds, Shopping Malls, Recreational Centres, Markets, Motor Parks, Amusement Parks and areas housing Critical National Assets and Infrastructure,” Ojobo said.

“Black spots like uncompleted buildings that harbour criminals are also covered to avert security breaches.

“Dr. Odumosu, also gave matching orders to all Area Commanders and Divisional Officer to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure maximum security in their areas of coverage to avoid security hitches” , Ojobo said.

The Commandant admonished his personnel to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement, and avoid harassment and intimidation of any citizen as well as accidental discharge.
