Police bans use of tinted glasses, covered number plates, siren by motorists in Akwa Ibom

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 3, 2024 3762 Minutes read0

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned the use of illegal tinted glass, siren and concealed number plates on vehicles.

According to the police, the use of tinted glass, siren and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety and order in the state. It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for Akwa Ibomites and residents in the state.

The ban was made known today in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Timfon John, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and made available to The Frontier.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara has noted with dismay a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorised vehicles.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is committed to enforcing the law and has directed a total clampdown on violators,” said the PPRO.

Below is the full statement:

AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE COMMAND

PRESS RELEASE

BAN ON TINTED AND COVERED NUMBER PLATE: Motorists Warned Against Use of Illegal Tinted Glass and Covered Number Plates, CP directs clampdown and full enforcement.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a warning against the use of illegal tinted glass, siren and concealed number plates on vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara has noted with dismay a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorized vehicles.

The use of tinted glass, siren and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety and order in the state. It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for Akwa Ibomites and residents in the state.

To ensure total compliance with regulations regarding tinted glass, use of siren and concealed number plates, all motorists plying public roads are urged to desist from this practice.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is committed to enforcing the law and has directed a total clampdown on violators.

We urge members of the public to comply with these regulations and work with law enforcement officials to maintain a safe environment for all. Together, we can make Akwa Ibom State a better place for everyone.

ASP TIMFON JOHN, ANIPR,

Police Public Relations Officer,

For: Commissioner of Police,

Akwa Ibom State Command.
