Police caution couples to keep their marital secrets off social media

•PPRO Josephine Adeh

As the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Complaint Response Unit has over a long time continued to receive complaints from married people over the divulging of private issues on social media, the FCT Police Command has cautioned couples to stop the trend.

The Command cautioned couples to keep details of their marriages off the social media space.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made the caution in a post via her official X handle today.

Adeh urged couples to instead use social media platforms to promote their businesses to avoid complaints.

She wrote, “All these married couples are showing off love on social media. I don’t want to hear complaints.

“Keep your happy homes off social media. Use the social media platforms to promote your businesses.”

It was gathered that most of the complaints received by the FCT Police Complaint Response Unit over the last two months had been from married people.

According to a report, many couples in the FCT had been contacting the police to complain about the activities of their partners on social media and how it adversely affected their marriages.

A PCRU officer was quoted as saying, “I think the PRO is just very concerned because most of the complaints that we have received at the PCRU over the past two months have been from married people.

“A lot of these married people living in the FCT have been calling us to complain about the content that their partners post on social media and how it sometimes affects them in negative ways.”
