The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying and locating the family of a six-year-old boy, Haneem Hussaini Bello, who was found wandering and crying in Abuja.
The child was found around the NNPC Towers in the Central Business District at about 3pm yesterday, Friday, September 4, after he became separated from his mother and siblings, reports The Nation.
According to the police, Haneem said he travelled from Bauchi State to Abuja with his mother and siblings for the summer break.
He explained that the family had gone to the Central Mosque for Juma’at prayers when he suddenly became separated from his mother and siblings and was unable to find his way back to them.
The boy was subsequently discovered wandering around the NNPC Towers while crying and was taken into protective custody by the police.
At the time he was found, the child was wearing carton-coloured trousers and a brown shirt with black and white stripes on the left side.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the child was currently in police custody as efforts intensified to trace his parents and reunite him with his family.
Adeh appealed to members of the public with useful information that could assist the police in identifying or locating the child’s parents or relatives to come forward.
She urged anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station or contact the FCT Police Command spokesperson on 07038979348.
The Command assured the public that efforts were ongoing to ensure the safe reunion of the six-year-old boy with his family.
