Police Service Commission sacks 4 senior officers, demotes others

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 7, 2026 651 Minutes read0

No fewer than four senior police officers have been dismissed by the Police Service Commission (PSC) while 31 others were slammed varying degrees of sanctions.

According to the Commission, the four officers were sacked after they were found culpable of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct and acts unbecoming of public officers, reports Daily Trust.

The Chairman of the Commission, Hashimu Argungu, a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja shortly after the Commission’s plenary.

Some police officers who acted contrary to the Standard of Operations of the Force have been facing disciplinary action while some are undergoing orderly room trial.

Giving the breakdown after the plenary, Argungu said ten senior officers received reductions in rank including three Superintendents of Police who had rank reduced to Deputy Superintendents of Police.

He said two Deputy Superintendents of Police had their rank reduced to Assistant Superintendents of Police, and five Assistant Superintendents of Police to Inspectors.

The PSC Chairman noted that two officers were also compulsorily retired in the public interest, adding that the Commission would continue to sanction erring officers who deviate.

He said, “Other sanctions included severe reprimands issued to ten officers, reprimands to five officers, warning letters to three officers, and a letter of advice to one officer.

“In addition, seven officers were exonerated and cleared of wrongdoing. I want to reiterate the Board’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force.

“The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers.

“The Commission will continue to uphold discipline in the Force and match all forms of misconduct with commensurate disciplinary actions.

“We would also continue to encourage and motivate hard work for deserving officers through our established reward system.”
