Probe Plateau wedding killings – Reps minority caucus tells FG

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 23, 2025 1870 Minutes read0

•House of Representatives

The minority caucus in the House of Representatives has condemned the killings of Zaria residents in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State last Friday. They have called on both the federal and state governments to launch a full-scale investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice, reports The PUNCH.

Thirteen people travelling from the Basawa community, Zaria, to a wedding in Plateau State were killed when a mob ambushed and set ablaze the bus they were travelling in. The bus belonged to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

In a statement issued by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and others, the caucus demanded swift action to ensure justice for the victims and support for those injured, who are receiving treatment in Plateau hospitals.

The statement emphasised the need for a holistic approach combining justice, dialogue, security, and reconciliation to address the ongoing violence in the region.

They condemned the attack as a heinous act and called for peace-building mechanisms, early warning systems, and prompt prosecution of offenders.

The caucus also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Kaduna State.
