Protest: APC, PDP trade words over attack in Zamfara

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 3, 2024 2142 Minutes read0

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara state have traded words over the dimensions of nationwide protest in the state.

The opposition APC in the state has alleged that the PDP supporters have attempted to burn the personal residence of state Minister of Defence Bello Mattawalle during the ongoing protest which the PDP replied that the allegation was misleading, baseless and unfounded, reports Saturday Tribune.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the Zamfara APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris alleged that PDP supporters have tried to attack minister Mattawale’s house during the first day of nationwide protest in the state.

Idris explained that the PDP officials had wanted to hijack the ongoing peaceful protest in order to destroy the properties of APC leaders in the state but this was averted with the intervention of security agencies.

“The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC is disturbed by the dimension of the nationwide peaceful protest in the state”.

“This is because we observed that many PDP thugs were strategically deployed to attack, maim, and destroy personalities and properties of the APC”.

“Most disturbing was how on the first day of the protest, the already known PDP thugs aimed at the former governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle’s personal residence for destruction of not for the quick intervention of security personnel who blocked them”.

“This indicated that if allowed, the thugs who were most likely implementing the directives of their leaders would have razed down the minister’s house and property”.

“The PDP thugs also attacked the residence of APC Senator representing Zamfara North senatorial zone Alhaji Sahabi Ya,u, destroyed many items including a vehicle”.

He said, “The PDP also attacked the residence of Senator Sahabi Yau at his hometown of Kaura Namoda, where they destroyed many valuables and damaged his Toyota Hilux in the name of peaceful protest”.

Reacting to the allegations, the Zamfara state acting PDP chairman, Muktar Mohammed Lugga said this is not the time of politics, and described the allegation of APC as baseless and unfounded.

“The administration of Governor Dauda Lawal would never plan to attack anybody or bring any confusion, PDP supporters in the state are responsible people”.

“This is not the time for politicking, instead of shifting unnecessary blame, let us collectively come together to support President Tinubu to address the issues”.

He said APC are only telling people their weaknesses in the state, they should wait until 2027,” he mentioned.
