Rescued trafficked girls returned from Côte D’Ivoire

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 18, 2024 2960 Minutes read0

•Girls trafficked for prostitution

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has repatriated five Benue girls trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire.

The Zonal Commander of NAPTIP in Benue State, Mrs Gloria Bai, disclosed this after a State Security Council (SEC) meeting held at the Government House in Makurdi, reports Daily Trust.

Recall that the girls, aged between 18 and 21, from Jato Aka in Kwande LGA, were trafficked for prostitution by a woman who sold them for N400,000 each.

Mrs Bai, who said the trafficker had been arrested, commended the Benue State Government’s efforts in the rescue and urged more vigilance against trafficking.

The Special Adviser (SA) to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, who stressed the importance of protecting the girls’ identities to prevent further harm and stigma, appealed to the public to cease sharing their videos on social media.
