Why I quit my job as Kano State deputy governor — Gwarzo

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, broke the silence hours after the Kwankwasiyya Movement announced his resignation from office yesterday.

Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, in a resignation letter addressed to his former principal, Abba Kabir Yusuf, which was obtained by this newspaper, explained that his decision was driven by the need to protect peace, stability, and effective governance in the state.

Gwarzo said he stepped down after “careful consultations and deep reflection,” noting that his action was guided by “commitment to the peace, stability, and overall interest of the good people of Kano State,” reports Saturday Independent.

“I hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from 27th March 2026,” he stated, adding that the move was in line with “Section 306 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”

He explained that prevailing circumstances made it difficult to continue effectively in office, stressing that stepping aside would allow the government to function without distractions.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions,” Gwarzo said.

The former deputy governor was quick to dismiss any link between his resignation and allegations reportedly raised against him, insisting that his decision should not be misinterpreted.

“This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing,” he said, maintaining that his record in public service speaks for itself.

Gwarzo emphasised that his action was rooted in respect for democratic values and institutional integrity, describing it as a necessary sacrifice in the public interest.

He also expressed appreciation to the Governor, members of the State Executive Council, the Kano State House of Assembly, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party for their support during his time in office.

“I remain deeply grateful to the good people of Kano State for the honour and privilege of serving,” he said, assuring that he would continue to contribute to the state’s development in other capacities.
