ROMANCE GONE SOUR: My wife is not bothered being barren, goes clubbing all night

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 26, 2024 3692 Minutes read0

A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has dissolved a marriage on the grounds of one of the parties living a reckless social life.

A man, Temidara, had approached the court seeking the dissolution of his four-year-old marriage to his wife, Juliana, whom he accused of living a reckless lifestyle.

Temidara stated that Juliana spent all her time clubbing and drinking.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant was never bothered about their childless state, but that her delight was in getting drunk and messing up the whole house after clubbing throughout the night.

The plaintiff further said that the defendant never ceased to embarrass him as a result of her indecent lifestyle.

According to the plaintiff, the more he counseled his wife against her disgraceful behaviour, the worse she became.

He thus entreated the court to stop their relationship.

Juliana did not come to court despite being served court summonses.

Temidara, in his testimony, said, “My wife and I had a customary marriage, and I paid her bride price.

“We have been married for four years, but unfortunately, our union has not been blessed with a child.

“My wife, rather than being bothered about our childless state, took solace in clubbing and drinking.

“Juliana would go clubbing throughout the night and would return home drunk.

“The more I complained about her indent behaviour and also counseled her, the worse she became.

“Juliana would mess up the whole house after drinking herself to stupor and would leave me clearing her mess.

“She daily embarrassed me, and I am fed up with her.

“My lord, l can no longer tolerate my wife’s disgraceful lifestyle.

“I, therefore, plead that you dissolve our union.”

The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, ruling, stated that the couple obviously held a customary marriage and that a bride price was paid.

Akintayo added that it was obvious that the relationship between the two had gone sour.

She also added that it was convincing that both could not live together any longer as husband and wife.

Akintayo further said that the defendant was given enough time to defend herself, but that she ignored all the opportunities given to her.

According to Akintayo, her conduct showed that she was not interested in saving her marriage.

She stated that the plaintiff has proved his case and is entitled to the relief sought from the court.

Akintayo, giving her judgment, dissolved their union.

She stated that the two ceased to be husband and wife.
