ROMANCE GONE SOUR: My wife’s lover helped her to climb gate, jump into the compound after bringing her back home late

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 10, 2026 1182 Minutes read0

Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned until January 15, a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Alabi, against his wife, Asake, on the account of irresponsibility, promiscuity, constant fight, violence and threat to his life.

Alabi stated that his wife, who was loving and caring when his business was booming, changed, and became cruel and heartless after he lost all the money he invested in a contract, reports Saturday Tribune.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant also became adulterous and kept late nights.

He explained that she was always dropped at home late in the night by her lover.

Alabi further requested an order, restraining his wife from threatening and interfering with his private life.

Asake, although denied all the allegations brought against her, acceded to divorce.

Alabi, in his testimony, said, “My marriage to my wife was blissful and peaceful until my business nosedived, and we started living from hand to mouth.

“Asake at this stage started showing her true nature.

“She became withdrawn, cruel, and hostile.

“My father-in-law came to my aid by giving me an amount which I invested in the business, but this unfortunately brought a little difference.

“Asake rather than brought succour to me, became a pain in the neck.

“My wife, despite knowing my trials, frustrated me and refused that I had peace of mind.

“She started demanding a refund of the money her father lent me.

“She went as far as advising that we sold our piece of land and used the proceeds from it to settle our debt.

“I yielded to her request after she had put much pressure on me and sold the land.

“I paid her father back his money while she spent the remaining amount on her business.

“Asake still refused that I had rest of mind.

“She became defiant and flouted my orders at will.

“She readily turned all our arguments into a fight and would go violent.

“Asake at a time threatened me with a knife and almost stabbed me with it.

“My wife at another time broke the windscreen of my car.

“I made frequent journeys to Abuja to carry out business transactions, and Asake used this as an opportunity to start dating other men who took her to joints and brought her back home in the middle of night.

“I caught her red-handed one of these nights a few weeks ago.

“She did not expect that I would return from Abuja early.

“I locked the gate to the house when it was night and waited for her return.

“She was surprised to find the gate locked and suspected that I was back.

“I watched through the window how she climbed the gate with the assistance of her lover and jumped into the compound.

“My lord, my life is not safe with a promiscuous wife.

“I pray this honourable court rule that we go our different ways.

“I also request an order restricting her from threatening and interfering with my private life.”

The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, after she had heard the plaintiff, adjourned the case.
