A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Nomansland, Kano, has arraigned a young man, Nura Usman, and his mother, Izzatu Aminu, over an alleged plot to kill the man’s father, Alhaji Usman Shanono.
The defendants were arraigned on charges of conspiracy and attempted murder in connection with the alleged plot, which prosecutors said was hatched at Dantsinke Quarters in Kano.
According to the prosecution, the mother and son allegedly hired a hitman and paid him N500,000 to assassinate Shanono.
However, the alleged assassin reportedly did not carry out the assignment. Instead, he informed Shanono of the alleged plot.
Reports said Shanono and the suspected hitman subsequently staged his death in a bid to convince the defendants that the killing had been carried out.
To support the deception, the alleged assassin reportedly took Shanono’s wristwatch and other personal belongings and presented them to the suspects as evidence that the mission had been accomplished.
Believing Shanono had been killed, the defendants allegedly announced his death, prompting relatives and sympathisers to gather to mourn him.
However, the situation took a new turn when Shanono later appeared alongside security operatives, revealing that his death had been faked.
The case, before Magistrate Sakina Amina Yusuf, has been adjourned until September 7, 2026, for further hearing.
