Scores of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s performance.
The defectors were officially received by Senator Abubakar Gada, who described the development as part of a broader coalition aimed at rescuing both the state and the country from what he termed as poor governance, reports Daily Trust.
Speaking during the reception, Senator Gada said growing discontent with APC leadership had driven more people to align with the ADC in a bid to effect meaningful change.
“Our people are resolute and determined to liberate themselves, the state, and the country at large,” he stated.
He expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Eastern Senatorial District of Sokoto, noting that it has severely impacted agricultural activities and contributed to rising poverty, unemployment, and hunger in the region.
“No society can thrive without security. This coalition is committed to restoring peace and stability for all Nigerians, regardless of their location,” he added.
When asked about the ADC’s chances of unseating the APC in the forthcoming elections, Senator Gada said that lies in divine hands.
“It is God who gives power, not the machinery of the state,” he said.
