Special investigator probing CBN under Emefiele’s tenure presents report to Tinubu

•Tinubu and Obazee

The Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to probe the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during the tenure of the Godwin Emefiele has concluded its assignment and presented its report to the President.

State House Correspondents got hints of this, when the former Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), Mr Jim Obazee presented the report to the presidency today, reports Daily Independent.

Recall that Obazee was appointed on July 28, 2023 to probe the apex regulatory bank.

Receiving the report, the President thanked Obazee for speedy conclusion of the investigation.

“Mr. Obazee should be commended for the dedication and professionalism he exercised in handling the complexities of this critical national assignment,” Tinubu stated through his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale.

The president also lauded Obazee for answering the call of duty while wishing him success in his future endeavours.

The statement equally noted that subsequent to the conclusion of the assignment and the submission of a final comprehensive report, and with the winding up of all apparatuses used during the scope of the task which terminated on March 31, 2024, the investigation is formally closed, with all appropriate law enforcement and regulatory agencies already conducting follow-up action.

Recall that the former CBN Governor, Emefiele has been facing legal battles from the incumbent administration over the way and manner he managed the regulatory bank while former President Muhammadu Buhari was in power.

Under Emefiele’s watch the CBN made a bold attempt to introduce new naira denominations into the fiscal system.
