Hunger protest: Tell Nigerians how wanted Briton got into Nigeria – NLC President Ajaero challenges FG

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 4, 2024 5471 Minutes read0

•NLC President Joe Ajaero and IGP Kayode Egbetokun

President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, yesterday accused the federal government of planting a British national at the headquarters of the labour movement in Abuja, popularly known as Labour House.

The labour leader also said he would have still been in jail by now after his arrest if he was not representing the movement, adding that the present government is all out to silence every dissent voice that raises eyebrows against its neo-liberal policies, reports Daily Trust.

It was earlier reported that the police high command, on September 2 declared Andrew Wynne (also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey), a British national wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government being led by President Bola Tinubu.

It said the Force has specifically launched a comprehensive investigation on how foreign mercenaries and those it described as subversive elements plotted to overthrow the democratically-elected in Nigeria.

Few days later, operatives of the Department of State Service arrested Ajaero on his way to the United Kingdom for a conference and he was released after hours of outrage.

Speaking in Abuja during the 2024 edition of the ASUU State of the Nation Conference, with the theme “Nigeria in a State of General Crisis: The Search for a New Path to Development,” Ajaero challenged the federal government to tell Nigerians how the Briton entered Nigeria.

This is the first time Ajaero would be speaking publicly on the matter after he was released by the secret police.

The NLC President said he decided to keep quiet on the matter for some time now because he was expecting the government to open up what really transpired.
