Following the increasing number of youths involved in use of hard drugs, the Lagos State Government in collaboration with some agencies, today took to the streets of Lagos to campaign against the dangerous vice.
Moving in convoys, singing, drumming and wearing customized T-shirts and faze caps, the campaigners particularly addressed the youths with public address systems about the dangers of using hard drugs.
The groups who campaigned simultaneously across all the local government areas in Lagos State today, were made up of operatives of the National Drug Law Agency (NDLEA), Police, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), traditional rulers and Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).
Speaking to The Frontier, one of the campaigners in Ojodu area of Ikeja LGA who gave his name as Prince Oshin said the campaign was meant to sensitize the youths who are involved in use of hard drugs which is dangerous not only to their health, but to the society at large.
According to him, the campaign was also meant to forewarn the residents of the action which the NDLEA and other agencies are planning to take against the culprits in the state.
“The agencies will soon embark on raids of all the areas in the state where these youths gather to take hard drugs. They are no longer hiding to consume these dangerous substances. That is why the traditional rulers are involved in the campaign so they will infirm and educate people at the grassroots. You know the traditional rulers are the people who will normally go to bail those arrested within their domains, but with this campaign, they have been told that when the raids commence, whoever goes to seek bail for any person arrested will be treated as an accomplice. That is why we are doing this today all around the state, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. Nobody will say ‘I didn’t know’.”
