Steer clear of Yoruba culture – Oba tells idol worshippers

•Oluwo (middle) and other Obas

Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi yesterday asked kings worshipping idols to either have a rethink or quit the throne to avoid imminent cultural revolt in Yorubaland affirming that the truth has come to chase lies.

He also expressed his determination to launch unadulterated kingship in Yorubaland devoid of deity worshipping and idolatry, reports Nigerian Tribune.

The monarch made this known in his appreciation message to the Yoruba Muslim Community who honoured him with a grand reception ceremony in his palace at the weekend.

The royal father stressed that, kingship is an institution of God (Olodumare) which must be protected against idolatry and deitism pointing out that, “revisitation of pure monarchy will restore the glory of Yorubaland and set a new pace of prosperity for our dear land. I canvass support from all true sons and daughters of Oduduwa to checkmate the infractions into our culture, traditions and most especially the thrones.”

Oba Akanbi further cautioned idol worshippers to stay away from Yoruba culture and traditions same way Muslims and Christians will never attempt to lump their religion with Yoruba culture.

He said, “We are here today to correct the mistakes of the past and rewrite history, to challenge lies and lay a formidable foundation for truth to strive. One of the purposes of meaningful existence is to correct the mistakes of the past. It may take time, truth has no duplicate. The glory of Yorubaland will shine again. We will clean the throne for the prosperity of our dear land.

“We have commenced cultural revolt against adulterated monarchy. Kings worshipping idols are herbalists. They should quit the throne. We want to make the throne, which is the head clean. When the head is good, the body will be sound. Deity worshipping is a religion not culture.

“Idol worshippers should stop mixing the wrong with the right. Our culture is one of the best worldwide. Today, it has been infected and infracted by deitism. The coordinated step to right the wrong is now. We will pursue it to a logical conclusion.

“Selected and interested monarchs from South Western States have registered their readiness. We will form an association of Yoruba Monarchs who trust only in Olodumare. We want to redirect the throne to God has launched by Oduduwa, the founding father of the throne through a coordinated cultural revolt against adulterated monarchy.

“All infractions into Yoruba traditional institution will be checkmated and corrected. A prosperous Yorubaland will rise to be envy others. We will clean the institution and restore the glory of the institution.”

Meanwhile, over 40 Obas from the 6 western states of Nigeria confirmed their attendance and many leading Yoruba Islamic clerics.
