A 29-year-old commercial cyclist, identified as Jamilu Ibrahim, has been reportedly strangled and his bike taken away by suspected hoodlums along Gaube village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT, Abuja.
A member of the vigilante, Friday Gambo, said the incident happened on Saturday, around 8:12pm at a cashew farm in the area, reports Daily Trust.
He said the vigilantes were alerted to the scene where the lifeless body of the cyclist was found with a thick rope and some rags tied to both his neck and mouth.
He said enquiries by the vigilantes later revealed that the cyclist conveyed two unidentified young men on his motorcycle as passengers from Tipper garage junction in Kuje, on the way to Gaube village.
He said after about a two-kilometre distance, the hoodlums forcefully diverted the cyclist into a cashew farm and strangled him.
“Upon arrival of the vigilantes at the scene, a thick rope and the rags they used in tying the cyclist’s neck and choking his mouth before escaping with his bike were found,” he said.
The vigilante member said the late cyclist was later identified to be residing in Kuchiako community, and the corpse was handed over to his relatives for burial after security personnel were informed.
Our reporter reliably gathered that a similar incident happened last week when a herder was also attacked along the road and his bike taken away by some hoodlums.
The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.
